2. Why take the PSAT/NMSQT® exam?
The PSAT/NMSQT® (Preliminary SAT®/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a 2.5-hour version of the College Board’s SAT®. The PSAT/NMSQT® measures verbal, mathematical, and writing abilities important to success in university and provides practice for taking the SAT® later in the junior or senior year. The PSAT® can be used to predict performance on the SAT®. The PSAT® is not used in university admission; scores will be sent only to the student and to the school. In the junior year, the PSAT® exam score is used as the qualifying score for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
3. When are scores released?
PSAT® results are usually sent to schools in late December and then are released to students soon after. Students will be able to log into their College Board profiles at https://studentscores.collegeboard.org to retrieve the scores (College Board Profiles are the same accounts used to order SAT® exams, or to log into the MyAP AP® Exam system. If students do not have one, they will need to create a profile to access scores.)
4. Can I cancel my exam and receive a refund?
No. Cancellations and refunds of the exam fees is not possible.
5. How do I prepare for the exam?
College Board offers detailed information as well as preparation tools developed in partnership with The Khan Academy. To access these tools, click here.
6. Are there fee reductions available?
If taking the PSAT® is a financial burden, please contact your counselor directly for a fee reduction discount code to apply to the registration form on this site. Request the code BEFORE registering.
