How do I order an exam?

Step 1: Submit Exam Deposit –  To indicate intention and commitment to take an AP® exam in the May 2020 AP® Exam administration, a $75 per exam non-refundable deposit is due by November 1, 2019. Click below to submit the deposit.

Step 2: Activate Exam on MyAPStudents who successfully submit an exam deposit will receive a “Next Steps” email that will direct them to log into the College Board MyAP site at http://myap.collegeboard.org using their College Board accounts.

Your College Board profile is the same account used to order SAT® exams, or to collect PSAT/NMSQT® and AP® scores from previous years. If you do not have a profile, you will be able to create an account on http://myap.collegeboard.org

Both returning and new users will be prompted to go through MyAP Registration pages on the MyAP website, see below for tips of what information to provide.

Each subject will have a Join Code (access code) to apply to the MyAP site to activate the exam.The Exam Group codes will be included in your Next Step email.

Exam Activation deadline: November 1, 2019.

⇒ Failure to complete step 1 AND 2 above by November 1, 2019 will mean that your AP® Coordinator cannot submit your exam order to College Board without your account incurring a penalty fee of $40 per exam, effectively making the cost per exam $190.

Step 3: Submit Balance of Fees Due – Starting on December 1, students who successfully activated an exam by paying the deposit AND activating the exam on MyAP, will receive a personalized invoice for the balance of $75.00 per exam due via email. Balance due in full by March 9, 2020.

The Balance Due email will be sent to the PARENT Email address provided on the Deposit payment form.

Exam fees can be submitted online using a credit or debit card, OR by mailing in a check or money order. Payment instructions are available on the digital invoice. Download the PDF copy of the invoice OR click on “View and Pay Online Now” on the invoice main screen.

⇒ Students with outstanding balances due as of March 9, 2020 will have their exam automatically deactivated and will forfeit their $75 deposit.

I can’t access my College Board profile or I can’t remember if I have one. What do I do?

Don’t create a second account!

Each student should have only ONE College Board account during their high school careers which houses AP®, PSAT® and SAT® scores and information. For log in help visit: https://pages.collegeboard.org/account-help or https://myap.collegeboard.org Students may also call College Board AP® Services for Students: 844-314-3632.

What information should I complete on my College Board profile?

The MyAP System will prompt you to complete the Registration screens if you are creating a new account. (If you have an account already, make sure to check through the MyAP Profile pages.)

Make sure that you enter your FULL legal name (should match your school records), your school student ID number, and also the name of your school. The email address on your profile should be your school email address (and if your school does not issue email addresses, it should be another STUDENT email address that is checked frequently and will be accessible after high school.) The email will be a crucial account identifier as well as where you will receive alerts from College Board and APTS.

On your College Board MyAP Profile you will also be prompted to complete the “Send Score” feature – on this screen you will submit the name of the college/university where you would like your free exam score report sent in July. Deadline to indicate the name of the school and qualify for a free report, is June 15, 2020.)

Where do I get the Join Codes to be able to activate the exam?

Join Codes are subject specific. They will be issued via email to students at the student email address on the deposit form once the deposit payment has successfully processed. Keep an eye out for a “Next Steps” Email from APTS to receive the Join Codes and activate your exam.

All students must complete the Join Code activation step by November 1, 2019 to avoid penalty fees of $40 per exam. No new exam orders will be activated after March 9, 2020.

Why do I need to activate an exam on MyAP?

College Board has launched the new MyAP system at http://myap.collegeboard.org as of August 2019. This new system enables students to complete the online registration screens in their profile. From the registration information entered, data will be pulled to print custom and individualized exam labels that will be placed on students’ physical exam materials in May. This means students no longer have to attend a pre-administration day OR spend time on exam day completing this information. Since the information is entered online, students are also able to review it for accuracy – which will avoid delays in reporting of exam scores to colleges/universities.

In addition, joining the online AP® Class on MyAP provides students and teachers with access to exam and course preparation tools designed by the College Board AP® program.

Can I make payments towards my balance due for my AP® Exam invoice?

Yes, students will receive their AP® Exam Fee Invoices beginning on December 1, 2019 at the PARENT email address on the deposit payment form. The full balance is due March 9, 2020 but students/families can make payments throughout that period of time.

Without payment of the balance due by March 9, 2020, the student will not be allowed to sit for the May exam administration and will forfeit their deposit.

I did not receive my AP® Exam Fee Invoice via email. What do I do?

Your AP® Exam Fee Invoice was emailed to the PARENT email address provided on the deposit form. It may have landed in your Spam folder – please check there. If you cannot find the invoice, please contact info@aptsusa.com to have your invoice re-issued.

How much do AP® exams cost?

  • The cost of each exam is $150, and each exam requires a $75 non-refundable deposit at the time of registration in the fall.
  • You must pay the full $150 amount by March 9, 2020.
  • There is a $40 late fee for registering between November 2, 2019 and March 9, 2020, in addition to the $150 cost of the exam (bringing the total cost of each exam to $190).
  • Payment can be submitted online using ApplePay, credit/debit card or by mailing in a check/money order to APTS. Instructions for mailing in a payment are provided on your invoice. To order an exam, visit http://aptsusa.com/uprep/.

What about fee waivers?

  • If you qualify for a fee waiver for the SAT® or the ACT®, you also qualify for a fee waiver for AP® exams. To request a fee waiver, please stop by the College Office for a numeric code to input when you submit your exam deposit form here on the APTS site. This code will reduce the cost of the exam automatically and adjust your invoice that you will receive accordingly.

When do I register?

  • New this year, the College Board requires that registration take place in the fall for exams that take place in May of 2020. UPrep’s registration window is between September 1 and November 1, 2019, and requires a $75 non-refundable deposit. To submit your deposit, click the link below.
  • There is a $40 late fee for submitting an exam deposit between November 2, 2019 and March 9, 2020 in addition to the $150 cost of the exam (bringing the total cost of each exam to $190).
  • Exam registration is not complete unless the exam is also activated on the MyAP website. To avoid the $40 penalty fee, this activation must be completed by November 1, 2019.

What if I decide not to take an exam?

  • If you paid in full for the exam (either $150 or $190, depending on when you registered), and cancel prior to March 9th, 2020 you will receive a $75 refund.
  • If you cancel prior March 9, 2020 and you paid for just the initial $75 non-refundable deposit, and not the full exam price, you will not receive any refund.
  • Cancellations on or after March 10, 2020 will not receive any refunds. This is because the College Board charges UPrep the full amount for each test after that date.
  • To cancel your exam, please contact cancel@aptsusa.com and include your name, our school name (University Prep), and the name of the exam(s) you wish to cancel. Refunds will be made at the completion of the exam period.

What about accommodations?

  • You must have advanced approval from the College Board. Please talk with Julie Smith (jsmith@universityprep.org) as soon as possible.

Why take an AP® exam?

  • Since UPrep doesn’t offer AP classes, colleges don’t expect our students to take AP exams. However, strong performance on an AP exam demonstrates college-level achievement while still in high school, and can provide further evidence of college preparation during the admission process. Sophomores and Juniors who do well on AP exams can self-report their scores during the application process their senior year (they do not have to report exams with poor performance).
  • Some universities will grant college credit for students who have earned a 4 or a 5 on AP exams. University decisions on credit are usually made department by department. Seniors who have done well on AP exams can send official scores at the time of matriculation to earn college credit.

How do I prepare for an AP® exam?

  • Since UPrep does not follow an AP curriculum in the classroom, students must prepare for an AP exam outside of regular class time.
  • Please note that AP exams take place during the school day. By registering for these exams, you understand that you might be missing valuable class time before exams.

How are AP® exams different from other exams?

  • AP exams are used to show college-level achievement while students are in high school, which is why students can often earn college credit for strong performance on an AP exam. AP exams are not a requirement for college admission.
  • Subject Tests demonstrate high school subject mastery; many colleges will accept the ACT in lieu of the Subject Tests. Some highly selective universities require Subject Tests for admission. For a complete list of schools that require Subject Tests, click here.
  • The SAT is a reasoning test used as a measurement of the verbal, mathematical, and writing abilities a student has acquired through his or her education. Colleges that require the SAT for admission will also accept the ACT.
  • The ACT is a test of educational development that measures how much the student has already learned. The test focuses on four subject areas: English, Math, Reading and Science with an optional writing test as well.

How are the AP® exams scored?

  • AP® exams are scored from 1-5, with 1 being the lowest, and 5 being the highest. Students typically only report scores of 4 and 5 to schools. At UPrep, typically about a quarter of our seniors opt to take one or more exams in 11th or 12th In recent years, 49% scored a 4 or a 5, and 75% scored a 3 or higher.

Which exams are offered at UPrep?

  • We offer the following exams: Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Chinese Language and Culture, Computer Science A, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, French Language and Culture, Physics C: Mechanics, Spanish Language and Culture, Statistics, US Government and Politics, U.S. History, and World History.

 Which exams are the most popular?

  • The most popular exams taken at U Prep are Calculus AB, Calculus BC, and Physics C: Mechanics.

When should I take the AP® Chemistry exam?

  • Many sophomores want to take AP® Chemistry at the end of their sophomore year. We strongly recommend that students complete a year of chemistry PLUS our organic chemistry elective before taking the AP® Chemistry exam.

When and how do I send my AP® scores to colleges?

  • AP scores are sent to a college once a student has made a final matriculation decision.  Unlike with SAT/ACT and Subject Test scores, which are usually prerequisites for admission, colleges do not ask for official verification of AP scores during the application process. If you have strong AP results that you would like to share during the application process, you can self-report them on your application.
  • Once you know where you will be enrolling, you can log into your College Board MyAP account and send scores to the college of your choice. (Deadline to send free scores is June 15.)

 Do I have to share my exam results?

  • If you do poorly on an exam and don’t wish to report your results, you do not have to – they are not a requirement for admission. You decide which scores you want to share with your college.

 When do the exams take place?

  • AP exams are offered from May 4-8 and 11-15, 2020 and each exam takes approximately 4 hours to complete. (See the exam calendar below.)
  • Morning exams begin at 8:00 a.m., and afternoon exams begin at 12:00 p.m.
  • Please plan accordingly; you are responsible for notifying your teachers and coaches if you miss class or practice. Students will not be allowed to leave exams early under any circumstances.

Where will I take the AP® exams?

  • We will notify you of your test location(s) no later than the Friday prior to your exam by sending an email to your UPrep email account. Exam locations will vary by space availability.

What if I don’t attend UPrep? It is possible to take an exam with UPrep students?

  • Only students currently attending University Prep will be able to register through this site. AP® Exams will only be administered to current University Prep students.
