What is the deadline to order my AP Exams?
Deadlines to submit your exam registration are based on the commencement date of the AP course that you are enrolled in, and are broken by College Board into an October or February deadline.
Course Commencement Date | Exam Registration Opening Date | Exam Registration Deadline |
Quarter 1 | October 9, 2020 | November 8, 2020 |
Quarter 3 | January 25, 2021 | February 28, 2021 |
Students who are enrolled in courses that commence in Quarter 3 may submit fees during Quarter 1 but it is not required nor recommended since certain fees are non-refundable.
Students who miss the November deadline and are enrolled in a Quarter 1 class will be able to submit a late order from November 9, 2020 through February 28, 2021. A $40 College Board penalty fee will be added to the exam fee. No late registration is possible for the Spring/Quarter 3 classes.
How do I place an AP® exam order?
STEP 1: Activate your exam – (Note, many students have completed this step in class during September to access classroom resources on MyAP.) Log into the College Board MyAP site at http://myap.collegeboard.org using your College Board profile and apply the ‘Join Code’ (access code) you receive from your teacher for each of your subjects.
College Board profiles are the same accounts used to order SAT exams, or to collect prior year PSAT/NMSQT or AP Exam scores. Do not create a new account if you already have one (see below for tips.)
Students will obtain a Join Code (access code) from their AP® Course teachers. Join Codes for the MyAP Site are subject, teacher and class period specific.
Once the student has joined the online AP® Class group, they will be prompted to complete the MyAP Registration Profile pages.
Students enrolled in courses that commence in Quarter 3 , will be able to register and activate the exam by completing the Join Step once the course commences.
See the deadlines above.
STEP 2: Submit exam fees – Click on “Submit AP® Exam Fees” below and submit your fees.
Payment for exams may be done via credit card or debit card, OR by mailing in a check or money order. There will be an online payment fee of 3% for payments submitted by credit or debit card. Directions for payment can be found at the end of the online registration form and in your e-mail confirmation which will be sent to the parent email address you provide on the registration form.
For Quarter 1 courses, exam fees are due by November 8, 2020. A penalty fee will be charged between November 9 and February 28 of $40 per exam.
For Quarter 3, exam fees are due between January 25, 2021 and February 28, 2021.
No exam fees will be processed after February 28, 2021. Exams that are active on MyAP without a corresponding fee submission by February 28, 2021 will be deactivated and not ordered.
Failure to complete both steps 1 and 2 by the applicable deadline means the AP Coordinator for your school cannot submit an exam order as initiated with College Board without penalty.
Note that students who are enrolled in courses that commence in Quarter 2 may submit fees before January 25 but are not required to do so, and are not recommended to so since credit card fees and processing fees are non-refundable. Please wait until your course commences before you decide about the exam.
Tips for setting up your College Board Profile on MyAP:
– Use an email address that you will have access to throughout high school AND university
– Make sure to enter your COMPLETE legal name to prevent issues with sending score reports to colleges and universities
– Enter your school Student ID number in the field provided on MyAP. This will assist your school in accurate exam day attendance reporting
I can’t access my College Board Profile account or am not sure I have one. What do I do?
The College Board Profile is the same account used to access your past years’ AP scores, PSAT scores, and SAT scores. Do not create a new one! Each student should have only ONE unique account. If you are unable to access the account, try using the ‘Forget Password?’ link on http://myap.collegeboard.org OR email apstudents@info.collegeboard.org OR call 888-225-5427 for assistance.
Where do I get the Join Code to complete the join step on the MyAP site?
Join Codes are subject, teacher, and period specific. Please see your AP® teacher ASAP for the code. Many teachers will complete the Join Step in class since all students are encouraged to join the MyAP system for accessing instructional resources. Students who choose to take the optional exam will also indicate their exam decision as YES, and submit exam fees.
What if I miss the November 8 deadline to submit fees?
A penalty period for late deposit submission is available from November 9 through February 28 with a penalty fee of $40 per exam.
No exam orders will be accepted after February 28, 2021.
I’ve decided that I do not want to take the exam in May. What do I do?
Students who submit a cancellation request by 11:59pm PST on February 28, 2021 will receive a full refund of the base exam fees. Late registration fees and credit card fees are non-refundable Exams cancelled after March 5 or examinees who no show on exam day are not eligible for a refund. To cancel email cancel@aptsusa.com and include the student name, name of the school and the title of the exam to cancel.
Can I change when I take the exam?
Exam times are set by The College Board. Note that AP® Exams must be taken only at the times established by The College Board. See the link below for the national calendar.
Is there financial aid available for the 2021 AP® exams?
Fee reductions are available to students who qualify based on College Board and Federal Free-Reduced Lunch Program guidelines. To verify whether or not you are eligible for fee reduction, please contact Steve Baker at sbaker1@sandi.net to request a fee reduction. If you are eligible, you will receive special instructions to register via the online system using a fee reduction code. This code will reduce your fee amount due appropriately. The deadline to obtain a fee reduction code is November 5 by 3 PM. You must then complete the exam payment form for your AP® exam(s) with APTS by the November 8 deadline and complete the activation step.
What if I get sick and can’t make the exam?
There are provisions for students who become sick or injured during or right before testing. In case of such an emergency, please contact your AP® Coordinator at your school IMMEDIATELY at chord@sandi.net. A doctor’s note will be required. IMMEDIATE contact – if ill on the day of the scheduled exam – is crucial due to the deadlines involved in ordering make up materials.
