What is the deadline to order my AP Exams?
Deadlines to submit your exam registration are based on the commencement date of the AP course that you are enrolled in, and are broken by College Board into an October or January deadline.
Course Commencement Date | Exam Registration Opening Date | Exam Registration and Payment Deadline | LATE Exam Registration and Payment Deadline (Penalty fees apply) |
Quarter 1 | October 3, 2020 | October 30, 2020 | March 5, 2021 |
Quarter 2 | November 23, 2020 | January 15, 2021 | March 5, 2021 |
Students who are enrolled in courses that commence in Quarter 2 will not be able to complete the registration steps until the Quarter 2 window commences.
Students who miss the October 30 deadline and are enrolled in a Quarter 1 class will be able to submit a late order from November 23, 2020 through March 5, 2021. A $40 College Board penalty fee will be added to the exam fee.
How do I place an AP exam order?
STEP 1: Activate your exam – Log into the College Board MyAP site at http://myap.collegeboard.org using your College Board profile and apply the ‘Join Code’ (access code) you receive from your teacher for each of your subjects.
College Board profiles are the same accounts used to order SAT exams, or to collect prior year PSAT/NMSQT or AP Exam scores. Do not create a new account if you already have one (see below for tips.)
Students will obtain a Join Code (access code) from their AP® Course teachers. Join Codes for the MyAP Site are subject, teacher and class period specific.
Once the student has joined the online AP Class group, they will be prompted to complete the MyAP Registration Profile pages.
Students enrolled in courses that commence in Quarter 2 , will not be able to complete this step until the course commences.
See the deadlines above.
STEP 2: Submit exam fees – Click on “Submit AP Exam Payment” below and submit your fees.
Payment for exams may be done via credit card or debit card, OR by mailing in a check or money order. There will be an online payment fee of 3% for payments submitted by credit or debit card. Directions for payment can be found at the end of the online registration form and in your e-mail confirmation which will be sent to the parent email address you provide on the registration form.
For Quarter 1 courses, exam fees are due by October 30, 2020. A penalty fee will be charged between November 23 and March 5 of $40 per exam.
For Quarter 2, exam fees are due between November 23, 2020 and January 15, 2021. A penalty fee will be charged between January 16 and March 5, 2021 of $40 per exam.
No exam fees will be processed after March 5, 2021. Exams that are active on MyAP without a corresponding fee submission by end of day on March 5, 2021 will be deactivated and not ordered.
Failure to complete both steps 1 and 2 by the applicable deadline means the AP Coordinator for your school cannot submit an exam order as initiated with College Board without penalty.
Tips for setting up your College Board Profile on MyAP:
– Use a STUDENT email address that you will have access to throughout high school AND university
– Make sure to enter your COMPLETE legal name to prevent issues with sending score reports to colleges and universities
– Enter your school Student ID number in the field provided on MyAP. This will assist your school in accurate exam day attendance reporting
I can’t access my College Board Profile account or am not sure I have one. What do I do?
The College Board Profile is the same account used to access your past years’ AP scores, PSAT scores, and SAT scores. Do not create a new one! Each student should have only ONE unique account. If you are unable to access the account, try using the ‘Forget Password?’ link on http://myap.collegeboard.org OR email apstudents@info.collegeboard.org OR call 888-225-5427 for assistance.
Where do I get the Join Code to complete the join step on the MyAP site?
Join Codes are subject, teacher, and period specific. Please see your AP® teacher ASAP for the code. Many teachers will complete the Join Step in class since all students are encouraged to join the MyAP system for accessing instructional resources.
What if I miss the October deadline to submit fees?
Late registration for exams corresponding to Quarter 1 classes will open on November 23 with a penalty fee of $40 per exam. No order changes or additions will be processed after March 5, 2021.
I’ve decided that I do not want to take the exam in May. What do I do?
Students who submit a cancellation request by 11:59pm PST on March 5, 2021 will receive a full refund of the base exam fees. Late registration fees and credit card fees are non-refundable Exams cancelled after March 5 or examinees who no show on exam day are not eligible for a refund. To cancel email cancel@aptsusa.com and include the student name, name of the school and the title of the exam to cancel.
Can I change when I take the exam?
Exam times are set by The College Board. Note that AP® Exams must be taken only at the times established by The College Board. View the calendar below.
Is there financial aid available for the 2021 AP® exams?
Fee reductions are available to students who qualify based on College Board and Federal Free-Reduced Lunch Program guidelines. To verify whether or not you are eligible for fee reduction, please see Vice Principal Mr. Parra before October 28. If you are eligible, you will receive special instructions to register via the online system using a fee reduction code. This code will reduce your deposit amount due appropriately. The deadline to obtain a fee reduction code is October 28 by 3 PM. You must then complete the exam fee form for your AP® exam(s) with APTS by the October 30 deadline and complete the activation step.
What if I have two AP® exams at the exact date and time?
College Board makes provisions for students who would like to register to take two exams that are scheduled at the EXACT date and time. Please complete the deposit form fully and select the subjects regardless of date, and submit payment. The student will be contacted by APTS to alert them which of the two exams have been assigned an alternate date. Assignments will be made based on numbers and space/proctor availability. You will not be assessed a $40 late fee for exams offered at the exact date and time. Students who have exams back to back (one in the morning and one in the afternoon on the same date) are NOT eligible for late testing.
What if I get sick and can’t make the exam?
There are provisions for students who become sick or injured during or right before testing. In case of such an emergency, please contact your AP® Coordinator at your school IMMEDIATELY. A doctor’s note will be required. IMMEDIATE contact – if ill on the day of the scheduled exam – is crucial due to the deadlines involved in ordering make up materials.
